Jugendlager 2017....Hosted by the Akron German Family Society

Youth across the United States and Canada came together over a 4 day gathering to share, make new friends, dance together, make food, sightsee, and tent camp on the grounds of the Akron German Family Society. Such an impressive sight to witness over 80 youth and 32 chaperones, from 7 German clubs, joining together in an amazing cultural experience. The youth and adults enjoyed home-cooked meals from breakfast to dinner to snacks in between. The many volunteers made sure that nothing was left out for all of the guests to have a fantastic time!
The youth were divided into various groups to ensure that they mingled. Many developed life-long friendships.
With pride, the Akron GFS and their guests toured throughout the Akron area on tour buses to important places including St. Bernard's Catholic Church which is the founding location of the Akron club. They also saw sites including the Akron Locks. They all learned that theses sites were built by German immigrants. Great fun was had in playing whirlyball and laser tag on one evening. The youth were split among groups so that new friendships were kindled through the daily breakout sessions including hands-on baking, cooking, and other fun activities. On Saturday night the candle ceremony was very touching and some tears of emotion were seen throughout. Special thanks to Michael Rodesheim for sharing a few personal stories and for saying, "We came as strangers and left as friends". Thank you to David Hall for taking such great pictures of this event. See the links below for higher resolution print quality pictures.
