Konzert Abend "Spring Concert" at Akron German Family Society

The Akron German Family Society’s Konzert Abend “Spring Concert”, held on Saturday April 5, was met with a full house of attendees, having traveled near and far, to enjoy the music and singing by famous and talented German singers and musicians. To attract this number of people for this event is a clear reflection of the many club members, and their guests, having an authentic and genuine connection with the love of German culture. The evening was presented fully in the German language.
Highlights of the concert included the exceptional voices and music performances of Kay Dorfel -Thuringen, Die Waldspitzbum -Thuringen, Willi Seitz (original Naabtal Duo) Bayern, and Birgit Langer - Baden Wurtemberg. German favorites, in song and music, kept the audience enthralled in well loved classics. Some attendees, felt a reminiscing of days in their childhood, and memories of earlier wonderful times. As always, the attendees enjoyed a delicious homemade German meal prepared by the many dedicated kitchen volunteers. Of course, many German wines and bier were enjoyed to celebrate the "Konzert Abend".

A special thank you to Gunter Frischherz for sharing his exceptional photography skills in the pictures included in this blog. Another successful Akron German Family Society event!!

Why do I love the Akron German Family Society?....... By Michael Rodesheim

Why do you love the Akron German Family Society? This is a question that I asked Michael Rodesheim, acting Vice President of Akron German Family Society.
Michael went on to share his reasons and story....
"In the summer of 2001, I moved from Germany to NE Ohio.
Boy, had I known how bad and cold Ohio winters would be....
In 2002, I decided to join the German Family Society of Akron.
I still remember the first time visiting the club and talking to one of the members, Henry Tonhaeuser. He asked if I played soccer. Since I just came from Germany, and all Germans are suppose to play soccer, it was a legit question. I told him that I played soccer for almost 25 years, but can't play anymore, because of some bad knees. It comes with age!
It wasn't long after when Joe Geiser, our last President, talked to me and asked if I could teach German. I have never taught German before, but I agreed to give it a try. Since 2002, I have served on the board as a German teacher, Secretary, Bar Manager, and recently over the last 3 years serving as a Vice President. I have loved all the positions held on the board. The board is made up of a great group of people who are also my friends!
My wife, Chris, enjoys helping in the kitchen during Old European Days, held in June, as well as during Oktoberfest, held on the second weekend in September.
My daughter Michi started dancing in the Kindergruppe (kids group) in 2006. She is currently dancing in the Junior Jugendgruppe (junior youth group).
Last but not least, my son William is dancing in the Kindergruppe!
So,..... pretty much a family affair!
I have made so many friends at the club over all the years, had so much fun - not just drinking beer, wine and Jägermeister!
I've enjoyed seeing our club's children grow and become very well mannered young adults.
Without having the Akron German Family Society, their German background, great German food, German Gemütlichkeit and friends, I would not have made it all these years living in Ohio, without being homesick. The club members became the family that I had to leave behind in Germany!"
Michael Rodesheim, Vice President of the Akron German Family Society

Michael,
I want to personally thank you for sharing "your story" and the love you have for our club, with our readers and members!
